Trainer took $20,000 but never gave service dog: Galloway police

GALLOWAY, NJ — A West Virginia woman has been charged with theft by deception after a man spent about $20,000 over two years on a service dog she never received, Galloway police said.

The victim contacted Galloway Police on June 18, 2024, and reported that she paid Causey Labradors and Training, LLC the money over a two-year period and never received the service dog despite paying in full through the mail and contacting the company, police said.

Galloway police launched an investigation and identified 52-year-old Catherine Causey of Kearneysville, West Virginia, as a suspect, a news release said.

Causey was charged with theft by fraud and money laundering on Aug. 20. She was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility until a new court date is scheduled, police said.

Galloway Police urge all residents to report any cases of fraud or deception. Be cautious when making online purchases and document all of your financial transactions. If you believe you have been a victim of financial fraud, contact the Galloway Township Police Department at 609-652-3705.
