Venue of Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 moved from Bangladesh to United Arab Emirates

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Venue has been moved to the United Arab Emirates (United Arab Emirates), the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.

The tournament will take place from October 3 to 20 without any changes to the dates at two venues in the United Arab Emirates – Dubai and Sharjah.

The ninth edition of the cricket The tournament, which was scheduled to take place in Bangladesh, was postponed due to political unrest in the country.

“It is a shame not to host the Women’s T20 World Cup “As we know, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have put on a memorable event in Bangladesh,” ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement.

The BCB retains the hosting rights and will host the event jointly with the Emirates Cricket Board. Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe had also submitted bids to host the event.

“I would like to thank the BCB team for exploring all options to hold the event in Bangladesh, however due to travel warnings from the governments of some of the participating teams, this was not feasible,” added Allardice.

The United Arab Emirates, home to the ICC headquarters, has co-hosted a number of global cricket events with Oman, including the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The Australian women’s cricket team enters the competition as three-time defending champions. Australia has won the title six times in the last seven editions. England, champions of the inaugural edition in 2009, and West Indies, champions in 2016, are the only other teams to have won the Women’s T20 World Cup.
