Smartphones are known to emit radiation, so how worried should you be? Health and government experts say there is no evidence of harm. A friend of mine who is a cancer surgeon says the opposite. I believe him and keep my phone away from my head whenever possible.

I wonder how much radiation from your Phone? Here’s how to find out.

How much is too much?

The SAR, or Specific Absorption Rate, is the amount of radiation your body absorbs from your phone’s handset.

The legal limit in the USA is 1.6 watts per kilogram, but we knowledge that even small amounts of radiation are not good for our health.

Fortunately, I found a comprehensive database of all smartphones and their radiation exposure at the Federal Office for Radiation Protection.

Tip in the tip: When you click on this link it is in German. Just look in the address bar of your browser to get a translation with one click. In Chrome it is on the far right.

I’ve done the work for you and translated the SAR data of the 10 best-selling smartphones into English so you don’t have to:

  • iPhone 15 Pro Max – 0.98
  • iPhone15 – 0.98
  • iPhone 15 Pro – 0.98
  • iPhone14 – 0.98
  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra – 1.06
  • Samsung Galaxy A15 5G – 0.80
  • Samsung Galaxy A54 – 0.69
  • iPhone 15 Plus – 0.98
  • Samsung Galaxy S24 – 0.87
  • Samsung Galaxy A05 – 0.58

Find your phone’s SAR value

It’s easy to find out the SAR value for most smartphones, including the one you’re probably using to read this story. These steps work on iPhones and most Android devices. Yours may be different.

  1. Open your dial pad as if you were making a call.
  2. Tap on *#07# and click on the Call buttonThis will take you to a part of your phone’s settings.
  3. Click on RF exposure.
  4. Scroll to the website link with information about your device.

Play it safe

The powers that be tell us not to worry. Protect your body (and your peace of mind):

  • If you’re an iPhone user, take calls with your AirPods, their SAR level is twice as low as your phone’s.
  • Do you have an Android device? Then get a pair of affordable earbuds from Raycon* that sound like expensive headphones.
  • Ladies, keep your phone in a purse instead of your bra or pants pocket. Need to keep your hands free? Use a shoulder bag that’s convenient for running errands.
  • Guys, don’t put your smartphone in your pocket to protect your fertility.

Young people are exposed to the most cell phone radiation in their lifetime. Do something good and pass on these tips to protect them (and their future generations).
