DECATUR COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) – A teenager was seriously injured in a crash in Decatur County Monday afternoon that closed both the northbound and southbound lanes of SR 253.

According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), at approximately 2:26 p.m., a tractor-trailer and a Ford Explorer were both traveling north on SR 253. The Ford was driving behind the tractor-trailer when it slowed to make a left turn onto a private driveway.

The driver of the Ford was distracted and did not notice that the semi-truck was slowing down. The Ford then crashed into the rear bumper of the semi-truck.

According to Georgia 511, the southbound and northbound lanes were cleared around 5:38 p.m.

GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) was notified and rendered assistance as the juvenile passenger was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
