The Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) has taken a significant step towards promoting Egypt’s technological and industrial capabilities with the opening of a new mobile phone tower manufacturing center at its aircraft plant. The center was officially opened by Major General Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Chairman of the AOI, along with key industry leaders, including Major General Abdel Rahman Abdel Azim Othman, Director General of the AOI, and Major General Tarek Abdel Fattah Mohamed Hassan, Chairman of the Board of the aircraft plant. The opening underlines the AOI’s commitment to localize technology, increase local manufacturing rates and reduce dependence on imports as part of the “Made in Egypt” initiative.

At the heart of this initiative is the development of cell tower manufacturing, a key infrastructure component for the communications sector. The new centre is equipped with state-of-the-art CNC forming and cutting machines that meet the latest standards of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Engineers and technicians have been trained both locally and internationally to operate these advanced production lines, ensuring that AOI meets the highest global quality standards.

The Aircraft Factory’s successful achievement of 100% local manufacturing of cell towers is a major milestone. By the end of June 2024, the factory had completed the production and delivery of 67 communications towers for Etisalat Misr under a framework agreement. A further 70 towers are currently in production, with delivery expected by the end of September 2024. This expansion of production capacity is part of AOI’s broader strategy to meet the growing demand from major telecom companies in Egypt, including ongoing negotiations with Telecom Egypt for further collaboration.

AOI’s vision goes beyond supplying the domestic market. The organization actively seeks to enhance collaboration with all Egyptian communications companies and develop integrated smart solutions that leverage Egyptian creativity and innovation. AOI’s national manufacturing capabilities aim not only to meet local needs but also to position Egypt as a major exporter of telecommunications infrastructure to African and Arab markets, thereby contributing to the region’s digital transformation.
