Woman’s Dog Eats Her Uninsured Diamond Engagement Ring (Exclusive)

  • Chloe Miller panicked when she noticed her Australian Shepherd Charlie chewing on her engagement ring
  • The prongs of the ring were damaged, causing the diamond on her engagement ring to come loose
  • When the diamond was nowhere to be found in the house, Chloe was confronted with the fact that her dog had probably eaten the diamond

Chloe Miller was quite surprised when her Australian Shepherd got her engagement ring.

After meeting as college swimmers at Georgia Tech, the student was excited to get engaged to her fiancé after five years of dating. Miller was finishing her degree and her partner was living in Florida for work. The couple were in a long-distance relationship when an incident occurred involving their dog, Charlie.

One day in March 2022, Miller was struggling through a busy schedule as a graduate student. “I was gone for eight hours preparing for an important exam I had the next day,” she tells PEOPLE. “I had left the ring in my ring dish on my nightstand.”

Miller didn’t think twice about not wearing her ring until she later noticed it was missing.

“I’m known for losing everything and at the time I didn’t have insurance on the diamond! I was absolutely devastated because I felt so irresponsible. I called my mom to tell my fiancé because I was so excited at the time and didn’t want to stress him out since he was in Florida,” she explains.

Miller eventually noticed that Charlie had grabbed the ring and that the diamond had come off while he was chewing. At this point, she and her partner believed the dog had probably swallowed it.

“She must have smelled it. I assumed she was chewing on it for a while. Unfortunately, this is not the only time she has chewed on jewelry. She doesn’t chew on ANYTHING else except jewelry,” says the dog owner.

The couple was worried not only about their diamond, but also about Charlie.

“We did a lot of research to figure out when we should be concerned. She’s an incredibly smart dog and I think she knew we were looking for it because she pooped up to six to eight times over the next two days,” says Miller.

“We had agreed to go to the vet the following Monday if it wasn’t over. Plus, we couldn’t be 100 percent sure the diamond wasn’t in some carpet or blanket, so we turned the house upside down.”

She continues: “Of course I was worried about her health, but I have to say that at the time I was completely devastated and quite angry with her. Even now, when I show her my ring, she recoils because she remembers how upset and distraught I was.”

As the situation developed, Miller documented it on TikTok. “There was a sound trend that I thought was a perfect fit, but I never expected it to explode.”

The worried dog mom was happy that many people took the situation with humor. That helped her to get through the waiting period.

“Seeing everyone’s comments was just so funny and honestly put the situation in such a positive light. So many people commented that the same thing happened in Marley and I, and I didn’t even notice!”

After a few days, Miller’s current husband, who had traveled by car to be with her during this stressful time, managed to retrieve the diamond.

“Of course, he immediately came unexpectedly to help me find the diamond. In fact, he was the one who found the diamond in her feces almost two days later,” she says.

“She swallowed the diamond on a Thursday and it fell out of her on Saturday morning. The only damage was to the prongs of the ring. I have since had the ring repaired and the diamond set in a stronger setting.”

“I look back at the video and remember how upset I was at the time, but to this day we joke about it with friends and family and even brought it up at the wedding,” she notes. “It’s really part of our love and family story.”
