Couple at rare wedding in broad daylight in Fort Grey

Fort Grey was the unusual venue for the broad daylight wedding of Peter Le Noury and Katrina Le Noury-Hampson.

The couple said they chose the location because it was close to their two family homes, but they had to overcome numerous hurdles to make their dream come true.

“We wanted an outdoor venue and we both grew up on the West Coast,” Mr. Le Noury said.

Before the big day, Mrs Le Noury-Hampson said they were looking for the perfect venue.

“We looked at a few other venues, but they didn’t have the right atmosphere. We chose Fort Grey because of its iconic status.”

The couple said the location offered good continuity in case of bad weather and that the ultimate plan B was to drive to Mr Le Noury’s nearby home and get married in his greenhouse.

“There were a few problems along the way, now we just hope the weather holds,” said Ms Le Noury-Hampson the day before the ceremony.

The couple signed their marriage certificate on the cannon outside the shipwreck museum.

“You could call it a forced marriage,” joked Ms Le Noury-Hampson.

The couple had to be prepared to share their special day with holidaymakers and visitors to the fort.

“They advertise online that you can get married at any of these venues, but they don’t mention that it has to be after 4.30pm (outside opening hours), so while we’re getting married, the venue is still open,” said Mr Le Noury.

He said the Fort Grey site could officially accommodate 50 people.

After the wedding, Mrs Le Noury-Hampson said the day had been perfect.

“It couldn’t have been better,” she said. “We had a fantastic day.”

Since the fort is still open to the public, some visitors sat on benches and took photos, her husband said.

The couple had not planned a honeymoon but said they usually go to Thailand in December to visit Ms Le Noury-Hampson’s sister and brother-in-law, so will do so again this year.

They thanked Guernsey Museums for allowing the wedding to take place during normal opening hours.
