Javed Akhtar reveals Salim refused to be best man at his wedding to Honey: “In all the marriages I have…”
Javed Akhtar is one of the most famous personalities in the Indian music industry. In his private life, he has been married twice. He was previously married to Honey Irani, with whom he has two children, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. They were married for 11 years before separating in 1985. In 1984, Javed married for the second time to veteran actress Shabana Azmi.

Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar’s documentary, Angry young menwas released on Prime Video, and in an interesting revelation, Salim shared that he had initially refused to be the best man at Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani’s wedding.

Salim Khan reveals details about Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani’s relationship
Salim Khan shared an interesting anecdote from his life and said that Honey Irani was his good friend and Javed mentioned her name during the casting of Seeta Aur GeetaSoon things got serious between Javed and Honey and Honey’s mother advised them to get married. Salim revealed:
“Honey was a very good friend of mine. Javed suggested her name during the casting of Seeta Aur Geeta. They soon became ecstatic about their relationship. Honey Irani’s mother told Javed, ‘I don’t like you coming here every day. You should marry her instead.'”
Salim Khan refused to act as best man at Javed Akhtar’s wedding
Javed Akhtar revealed that he always considered Salim Khan and his wife Salma Khan as his parents and listened to them. And when it came to his wedding, he didn’t want anyone else as his best man but the former duo. In this regard, Javed added:
“Salim Saab said, ‘To get married, you need two witnesses.’ I said, that’s you. Of course, I wouldn’t choose anyone else. He said, ‘Don’t make a witness.’ I asked why. He said, ‘All the marriages I witnessed have broken up.’ I’m not a superstitious person at all. I said, I don’t believe in such things. You will be my witness. But then it turned out he was right.”

When Javed Akhtar spoke about his relationship with his first wife Honey Irani
Earlier, in an interview with Mojo Story, Javed Akhtar spoke about his first wife, Honey Irani, and shared some lesser-known anecdotes about their relationship. According to Muslim Personal Law, he was only liable to pay maintenance to Honey for four months, but he considered his ex-wife as his responsibility. Moving along the same lines, Javed mentioned that he is always available to Honey if she wants to help him, whether she asks for it or not. He also recalled that after their separation, he left the house with some books and clothes. The lyricist also revealed that the understanding between him and Honey makes them best friends.
