The Serve Santa Maria event will take place on Saturday the 26th in Santa Maria and will provide the community with numerous opportunities to volunteer for a good cause.
Opportunities to help include building cribs, several painting projects at city sports facilities and schools, and two landscape beautification projects at a local park and nonprofit organization.
The morning begins at Home Depot at 2120 Bradley Road (instead of the usual Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center) as part of Serve Santa Maria’s “big project”: building beds to support Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
Nearly 200 volunteers are needed to help the nonprofit reach its goal of building 100 beds in three hours for children ages 3 to 17. Home Depot will supply the lumber and host the event in the facility’s north parking lot. The finished bed frames will be delivered to local households that have registered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
The local nonprofit is also accepting donations of new bedding sets, comforters and pillows for single beds at the construction site and at Bethel Lutheran Church Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Serve Santa Maria offers many other volunteer opportunities for parishioners, including:
Painting the back walls and restrooms of the softball field at the Hagerman Sports Complex
Garbage collection on South Bradley Road
Landscaping at Buena Vista Park
Painting a USA map and a world park at St. Mary’s School
Graffiti removal near Presker Park
Visit www.servesantamaria.com for more information and to register for one of ten different volunteer opportunities.
