A fan-favorite character will not appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu, and that disappoints me greatly.
Although the Legends continuity of star Wars brought Boba Fett back afterReturn of the Jedifirst The Mandalorian Season 2 began airing that it was confirmed in the official star Wars Canon that the bounty hunter survived his encounter with the Sarlacc. Temuera Morrison finally got to play the character in live action, almost two decades after he played Jango Fett and the clone troopers in the prequel trilogy era of the star Wars Films in the correct order, and after the completion of the second season he directed the spinoff The Book of Boba FettUnfortunately for fans of Boba, myself included, news has arrived that we should not expect to see him reappear in 2026 The Mandalorian and Groguone of the many upcoming star Wars Movies.
Morrison shared this information with ScreenRant at FAN EXPO Chicago during the “From Clone Troopers to Bounty Hunters” panel. In his words:
The Mandalorian and Grogu Filming began in July. For those of you who read Temuera Morrison’s statement and hoped Boba Fett could still be included in the script, that’s not going to happen. It’s a shame that this is the case, because Boba and Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin were an effective team. Although their relationship got off to a rocky start, Boba helped Din save Grogu from Moff Gideon in the final episodes of the second season. Then in The Book of Boba FettBoba Din enlisted the help of Fennec Shand to help him and Fennec Shand fight the Pike Syndicate on Tatooine. It would have been great to see the two reunite on the big screen for a third time, but unfortunately that is not planned.
While it is possible that Boba Fett’s absence in The Mandalorian is simply because writers Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau (who also directs) don’t need him for the story they’re telling, I can’t help but wonder if The Book of Boba FettThe disappointing performance of may have contributed to this decision. Our star Wars It ranks last in the TV show rankings, with a Tomatometer score of 66% and an audience score of 49% on Rotten Tomatoes. Temuera Morrison’s mention of his character being “on the sidelines” may suggest that Disney and Lucasfilm would rather not give Boba any attention, at least for now.
Let us hope that Morrison’s prediction that Boba Fett could return to the market later is correct. Even if The Book of Boba Fett wasn’t as good as many people had hoped, that doesn’t mean the title character shouldn’t be used in live action again. Boba was one of the star Wars‘ most popular characters since The Empire Strikes Back was released in 1980 (The less about Boba’s debut in The Star Wars Christmas Specialthe better), so he deserves a second chance to shine on the big screen again. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he’ll be in Dave Filoni’s film “New Republic.”
You can stream The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian and all others star Wars Shows with a Disney+ subscription, and the next, Skeleton CrewPremiere in the 2024 television schedule on December 3rd. The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released in theaters on May 22, 2026.
