SAN ANTONIO – Morgan’s has announced plans to build an “ultra-comfortable” hotel near its Morgan’s Wonderland theme park.

Morgan’s Hotel accommodates people of all ability levels and will go beyond regular ADA requirements to meet guests’ needs, a press release said.

Gordon Hartman, founder and CEO of Morgan’s, said the idea has been in the works for several years.

“This came from talking to travelers, both with and without special needs, who are looking for accommodations that go a little beyond what the average hotel offers,” Hartman said.

When planning the hotel, Morgan’s held town hall meetings and considered hundreds of ideas.

Hartman said the hotel will have small touches that some people might not notice, but will make a big difference to people who need them.

And the hotel will be affordable, Hartman said.

These details may include things like additional electrical outlets at different heights, small changes to bathrooms, wider hallways, easier elevator access, and the ability for guests to request needed items in their room when booking – such as an IV pole.

The staff is trained in how to deal with disabled people and receives assistance in the use of mobility aids as well as information on hearing aids and sensory-responsive color and lighting technology.

Hartman expects the hotel to “change the entire industry” and said the biggest names in the hotel industry, Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott, are working “very aggressively” to associate their names with the hotel.

“For them to say it’s time for us to move in this direction and open a very accommodating hotel is very special to us,” Hartman said.

The hotel will be built about half a mile from Morgan’s Wonderland and will have a shuttle to and from the theme park.

Morgan plans to start the project in late 2024 and expects to complete it in 2026.

“Here at Morgan, we don’t let the grass grow under our feet,” Hartman said.

Morgan’s Hotel will be built on an elevated site and will feature a full-service restaurant and bar on the top floor offering 360-degree views of the city and the Hill Country.
