Samsung fans share ‘the only settings’ to optimise phone battery life after admitting most changes are a waste of time

SAMSUNG fans share their tried and tested tips to extend battery life and improve smartphone performance.

Samsung users reveal how they can best save battery and say that many of the suggested methods are a “waste of time”.

There is even disagreement about the correct way to charge the battery. The “20 percent rule,” for example, prohibits users from discharging their phone below that number.

However, some savvy Samsung users reveal which tricks work best for them and claim that all others are a “waste of time”.

“I stopped trying too hard to save battery, and you probably should too,” one Reddit user explained in a post last fall.

“The only settings you should use to conserve battery,” he continued, “are light power mode, 4G instead of 5G, and maybe some signal/scan settings of your choice.”

Introduced with the Galaxy S23 series, Light Performance mode adjusts the device’s processing speed to prioritize battery life and cooling efficiency.

Samsung claims that this tool does not affect web browsing, calls, or video playback.

The Light Performance mode can also be activated on newer Samsung smartphones.

First, open the Settings menu and tap Device Maintenance. Nextselect “Performance Profile” and switch from the preset “Standard” mode to “Light” mode.

The Redditor’s next tip, “4G instead of 5G,” refers to network speed, or the rate at which your device transmits and receives data.

They differ in latency, i.e. the time it takes for a data packet to get from one place to another. However, even faster 5G devices spend a lot of time on the older 4G LTE network.

This adjustment not only improves battery life but can also resolve connectivity issues.

Like Light Performance Mode, 4G LTE is easy to enable. Go to Settings and select Connections.

Tap Mobile networks, then tap Network mode or Preferred network type, depending on your device.

You will see a list of available network modes, which may vary depending on your device and network operator.

To support 4G, look for a network mode such as “LTE/3G (Auto Connect)” or “LTE Only”. Your phone will automatically connect to the corresponding network when it is available.

Although the user did not go into detail about ways to boost signal strength, it is important to know what that is first.

Cell phone signal strength describes how well your device receives a signal from a cell tower or small cell. It is indicated by the bar symbol at the top of your screen.

The signal strength is generally between -50 dBm and -120 dBm and decreases the further it gets from zero.

Samsung fans can check the signal strength of their device with just a few taps.

In Settings, select About Phone, then tap Status Info.

Select “SIM card status” and navigate to “Check signal strength”, where you will see how strong or weak the signal is.

Samsung – a brief history

What you need to know…

  • Samsung is a large South Korean company that consists of many global companies
  • It is known locally as a “chaebol,” which means “business conglomerate.”
  • It was founded in 1938 by Lee Byung-chul as a trading company
  • But over the decades the business expanded to include food processing, insurance, textiles and retail.
  • It was not until the late 1960s that Samsung entered the electronics industry – for which the company is best known in the West today.
  • In the 1970s, the company also established companies in the construction and shipbuilding industries.
  • Today, Samsung’s main sources of income are its smartphones and computer chips
  • The company accounts for about a fifth of South Korea’s total exports and about 17% of the country’s GDP.
  • Samsung employs more than 270,000 people worldwide
  • And in 2023, Samsung Electronics generated sales of $194 billion

One way to fix problems is to restart your phone. This will close all active apps and force the phone to reconnect to the cell towers.

“Anything else will do more harm than good,” the Redditor explained. “You can use power saving mode if you want, especially if you have to go long periods without access to a charger.”

Instead of wasting time fiddling with settings like adaptive battery, the user encouraged others to use their phone “as it is designed out of the box.”
