RuPaul’s Drag Race Winner Bianca del Rio has sharply criticized fellow champion Nymphia Wind after a video went viral showing the latter using her phone during a meet-and-greet.
In just a few months since she beat out drag titans like Sapphira Cristál and Plane Jane to take the Season 16 crown, Nymphia has silenced fans at the Paris Olympics, performed for the then-President of Taiwan, and had her first “scandal” go viral. They grow up so fast!
The offensive video appeared on the Internet on Thursday (August 15) and was posted by a fan who met Nymphia along with others Drag Race Italy Winner Lina Galore.
The fan, whose caption translates to “My most humbling moment at a meet (and greet),” walks up to Nymphia, who is on the phone. She looks up briefly to greet the fan before looking back at the screen.
Enter season 6 winner Bianca Del Rio to tell Ms. Nymphia Wind exactly what’s going on.
In an Instagram Live conversation, a fan asked Bianca when she would collaborate on a project with Nymphia, to which the drag clown had a typically brave response.
“(I’ll work with Nymphia) when she gets off the phone!” she said. “I actually do my meet-and-greets. Girl, nothing is that damn important. These kids.”
Nymphia Wind has addressed the situation and refused to apologize, claiming she “lifted her head, gave two kisses and looked them in the eyes” for every fan she met.
“I understand it’s very rude, but that wasn’t the entire meet and greet and I know I wasn’t actively rude to anyone,” she wrote as part of her apology.
“Just for context, there are long wait times in the M&G group in particular. I simply took the opportunity to respond to some work messages,” she added in a separate post.
Despite Bianca’s advice, Nymphia turned this moment into a meme – along with other Drag racing Sisters, including Brooke Lynn Hytes and Plane Jane.
It is fair to say that fans do not take the “scandal” too seriously. Many even believe that it has increased Nymphia’s status.
“Nymphia finally has a controversial moment after her win… oh Miss Wind you are a deserving winner,” one wrote.
Another said: “Nymphia Wind is such a straightforward and talented angel that people try to cancel her over the phone. Oh Slaymphia, they will never make me hate you.”
