Gibson’s fatal accident occurred near a storm-damaged, closed road

A New Jersey driver was killed in a car crash in Susquehanna County last week, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Gibson Police reported that Divine J. Reynolds, 27, of South Amboy, New Jersey, died after the vehicle Reynolds was driving crashed on State Route 2036 in the town of Gibson, east of Chipmunk Road, on August 15.

Police said the accident occurred in an area where the road was closed due to a previous storm.

According to crash investigators, Reynolds’ vehicle was traveling westbound on Route 2036 around 8 a.m. when it approached a road closure sign prohibiting traffic over the storm-eroded single-lane bridge above Rock Creek.

Officials said the vehicle struck the “road closed” sign, traveled about 180 feet, struck a hay wagon and continued another 150 feet before hitting a tree and falling down an embankment.
