Joel Randall: Peterborough United midfielder leaves transfer rumors behind

“It’s great to have that sorted out and it gives me some clarity for the coming season.

“They’ve shown a lot of confidence in me and I just want to get on the field and have fun, keep learning, keep improving and help the team get as high up the league as possible.”

“Of course it’s nice to get recognition for my good performance, but when I’m on the pitch I just concentrate on my job and the task in front of me.”

Peterborough lost two of its most valuable players: Ronnie Edwards and Harrison Burrows were sold to Southampton and Sheffield United respectively, and fellow defender Josh Knight opted to move to Germany.

But the club has signed nine players of its own and is aiming for its fifth promotion under coach Darren Ferguson.

Randall joins from Exeter City in 2021 and is expected to play a key role this season.

“I had a feeling before the game against Shrewsbury that this would be the game in which I would score my first goal of the season – and the two at the end were more like tap-ins, which I (normally) cannot imagine,” he said.

“Management expects me, Kwams (Kwame Poku), Ricky (Jade Jones) and Mal (Mothersille) to step on the gas and create moments like these.”

He added: “We know we are top players in League One and we have to show that week in week out.”

“Mal gives us another option on the ball. I’m not the only one who has to do a lot going forward – he can drop back and connect, whereas Ricky is just brilliant on the shoulder and can come back at any time.”
