Two men charged after violent road rage incident and shooting near MIT campus, police say
Two men have been charged following a shooting that occurred Sunday following a violent road rage incident just feet from MIT’s campus.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, police responded to reports of a shooting near the MIT Sailing Pavilion on Memorial Drive around 5:15 p.m.
An initial investigation revealed that two drivers who did not know each other were involved in an incident of driving aggression. One driver, Cesar Gutierrez, 65, of Revere, allegedly struck the other, Kevin Osorio, 30, of Boston, with a blunt object.
Osorio then pulled out his gun and fired several shots at Gutierrez, state police said.
“Osorio had a firearm permit at the time of the incident and his firearm was recovered at the scene along with several cartridge cases,” a state police spokesman said.
Both men were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment of their serious injuries.
Both men are expected to be arraigned in Cambridge District Court as soon as they are medically fit to do so.
