Sea Dogs star Kristian Campbell moves up to Triple-A League Worcester

BASEBALL

Another top talent of the Boston Red Sox, infielder/outfielder Kristian Campbell, moves to Triple-A Worcester and continues his rapid rise through the farm system.

Campbell, a 2023 fourth-round draft pick who began the season in Class A, hit .362 with a .463 on-base percentage, a .582 slugging percentage, eight home runs, 48 ​​runs scored, 35 RBI and 17 stolen bases in just 56 Double-A games for the Portland Sea Dogs.

Campbell, 22, played shortstop, second baseman and center field for the Sea Dogs. MLB.com ranks him as the No. 5 Red Sox prospect, behind Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, Kyle Teel and Braden Montgomery. Mayer, Anthony and Teel were traded from Portland to Worcester a week ago, and Montgomery was Boston’s first-round draft pick this year.

• Despite home runs by Phillip Sikes and Tyler McDonough, the Portland Sea Dogs’ eight-game winning streak was snapped with a 7-3 loss to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in Binghamton, New York.

Sikes hit a home run for the second day in a row – a two-run shot in the fourth inning – and McDonough hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, but the Sea Dogs were held to three hits.

Portland returns home for a series against the Somerset Patriots beginning Tuesday. The Sea Dogs hold a 5.5-game lead over the Patriots in the Eastern League’s Northeast Division.

NASCAR: The FireKeepers 400 was postponed until Monday because rain forced NASCAR officials to cancel the Cup Series race after 51 of 200 laps at Michigan International Speedway.

Rahm finished with a 65. He made birdies on two of his last three holes and drew level with Koepka at 19 under par and 191.

EUROPEAN TOUR: Frenchman David Ravetto secured his first European Tour title when he shot 64 (8 under par) to beat Swede Jesper Svensson by four strokes at the Czech Masters.

Ravetto finished the race with 24 under par and 264 strokes.

CHAMPIONS TOUR: Ken Tanigawa won the Rogers Charity Classic in Calgary, Alberta, his third victory on the PGA Tour Champions, finishing with a score of 64 (six under par), beating Richard Green by two strokes.

Tanigawa finished 17 under par at 193 strokes, his first victory since the 2019 Senior PGA Championship.

US AMATEUR: Jose Luis Ballester, a rising senior at Arizona State, became the first player from Spain to win the U.S. Amateur, defeating Iowa sophomore Noah Kent 2-0 in the 36-hole final at Hazeltine in Chaska, Minnesota, on his 21st birthday.

BASKETBALL

NBA: Guerschon Yabusele signed a one-year contract with a minimum salary of $2.1 million with the Philadelphia 76ers after the 6-foot-8 power forward helped lead France to the silver medal at the Paris Olympics.

Yabusele, 28, played for the Boston Celtics in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, averaging 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds and 6.6 minutes of playing time in 73 games.

NBA: Kelsey Mitchell scored 27 points, Caitlin Clark added 23 points and nine assists and Lexie Hull scored 12 of her career-high 22 points in the fourth quarter to help the Indiana Fever to a 92-75 win over the Seattle Storm.

Clark broke the WNBA rookie record for assists in a season. She has 232 assists, surpassing the mark of 224 assists set by Ticha Penicheiro in 1998.

ENGLAND: Erling Haaland celebrated his 100th appearance for Manchester City by scoring the opening goal in a 2-0 win over Chelsea as City started their campaign for a fifth consecutive Premier League title.

It was Haaland’s 91st goal for City, taking his tally to five goals in three opening league games since joining the team in 2022.

TOUR DE FRANCE FOR WOMEN: Polish cyclist Kasia Niewiadoma managed just enough to win the women’s Tour de France by an overall margin of four seconds in a thrilling battle with her rival Demi Vollering on the legendary Alpe d’Huez.

It was the smallest victory ever in the Tour de France, including the men’s race.
