Lightning strike sparked forest fire near Lake Wenatchee

Forest fire at Lake Wenatchee in August 2024

Alerted residents spotted fire and smoke late Saturday night as thunderstorms moving through the area caused a lightning strike that sparked a wildfire near Lake Wenatchee.

Due to rain, the fire remained moderate, so authorities issued a Level 1 evacuation order for Shugart Flats Road, South Shugart Flats Road and Allen Road.

Lake Wenatchee Fire and Emergency Services reported that crews immediately dug a trench to slow the spread of the fire while other buildings prepared to withstand the flames nearby.

While working Sunday, crews focused on the southern part of the fire’s perimeter, which is closer to buildings. They say the fire spread was minimal throughout the morning.

A DNR crew will remain at the top of the fire and fire departments will request additional personnel.
