Family of five dies when FedEx truck crashes into their SUV in Texas

A Texas family of five was killed in a horrific traffic accident when a FedEx truck veered off the wrong lane and collided with the family’s SUV.

The fatal accident occurred around 8 p.m. on Tuesday as the 2019 FedEx box truck was traveling east on US 57, just outside Eagle Pass.

At the same time, a gray 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe carrying the family of five was traveling west, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a press release reported by several local media outlets.

However, the FedEx truck left its lane and crossed into oncoming traffic, causing a head-on collision with the SUV shortly after 7:50 p.m.

Four family members were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified them as Jose Martinez, 71, Noemi Jimenez Martinez, 61, Joanna Martinez, 34, and Samantha Martinez, 25.

A 10-year-old girl, whose name was not immediately released, was taken by paramedics to Fort Duncan Medical Center but succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital.

The driver of the FedEx truck was injured and also taken to Fort Duncan Medical Center.

In a statement, FedEx said the company’s thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic accident.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends who are mourning the loss of loved ones,” the statement to KENS5 said.. “Security is our highest priority and we are currently cooperating fully with the investigating authorities.”

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Texas DPS.
