People we meet on vacation: What we know about the next Emily Henry film adaptation
You thought we were done adapting Emily Henry’s books? incorrect because now we have another one in the works – People we meet on vacation.
Admittedly, this has been in the works for some time, but luckily we now have a little more information to share with you. For those who don’t know, Emily Henry is a romance author who has written some of the the best popular books at the moment, and of course People we meet on vacation has joined this long list upcoming book adaptations.
But what is this movie about? And who will play the lead role? That’s all we know so far.
What is the release date of The People We Meet On Vacation?
From August 2024 there will be no set release date for People we meet on vacation, which isn’t too surprising since the two main actors were only just announced (we’ll get into that below).
It has already been confirmed that the film will be released in October 2022 on Henry’s Instagram page, but it is only now moving forward on Netflix with two of the main stars – so don’t expect it to be on any Cinema program 2024.
To be honest, it is not the end of the world. There are still so many new films this year, both in the regular cinema program and for the Schedule for upcoming Netflix shows and movies, so I think we’ll be entertained. Besides, maybe we can see the film next year – that would be a blessing.
The cast of “The People We Meet On Vacation”
At the casting for People we meet on vacation was not confirmed for a short time, Tudum announced that we know exactly who will play our main characters:
Emily Bader as Poppy
Emily Bader plays Poppy in People we meet on vacation, the main character we follow throughout the story. Bader has gained a lot of popularity recently thanks to her leading role in the Amazon Prime series My Lady Jane. She has also starred in two other films – one of the Paranormal activities Films, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, And Fresh kills.
Apart from that, she has been a guest star in several shows such as Henry Danger, Game Shakers, And Charmed.
Tom Blyth as Alex
Tom Blyth plays Alex, the other half of People we meet on vacation. If this name sounds familiar to anyone who has followed the film scene over the past two years, then Blyth was the star of The Hunger Games – The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Cast, where he played a young Coriolanus Snow.
Apart from that, Blyth has also appeared in films such as Blessings, Scott and Sid and several short films. The actor had a leading role in the MGM+ series Billy, the child and guest appearance in The Gilded Age on HBO.

The author even shared her thoughts about the two in this Tudum article, saying that she kept coming back to her chemistry reading and that her feelings were different each time:
I watched her chemistry reading four times in 12 hours and I enjoyed it more each time. I laughed out loud the first time and was so emotional at the end.
So, now I’m even more excited.
What are the people we meet on vacation about?
As I mentioned earlier, the adaptation of People we meet on vacation is based on the book of the same name by Emily Henry. It was published in 2021, was a New York Times bestseller and has sold more than two million copies, according to Tudum. It is the most successful of Henry’s novels – which is saying a lot, because the most of her books are adapted.
The book tells the story of Alex and Poppy, two people who became best friends as children when they spent every summer holiday together despite having different personalities. However, as they grow older, things happen on certain trips that change their friendship. Two years after they stopped speaking, they decide to take one last trip together – and everything escalates from there.
With this premise from the book in mind, an excellent story is created for a fantastic rom-com adaptation. Will this make our list of the best romantic comedies of all time? Only time will tell.
“People We Meet On Vacation” is directed by Brett Haley
As confirmed by Tudum (but already announced with the film in 2022), Brett Haley will direct People we meet on vacation. The director is known for films such as Hearts beat loudly (this is one of the The best films by Nick Offermanby the way, if you haven’t seen it yet), All The Bright Places, All Together Now, The Hero, and more.
The fact that he People we meet on vacation makes me even more excited about the upcoming adaptation.
There are several other books by Emily Henry that are adapted
As mentioned above, several more Henry novels are in the works. One of them is the upcoming Beach reading, as well as Book lovers, and one of her latest novels, Funny story.
