Homeowner staggers after tree falls on her Rockcastle Co. home

BRODHEAD, Ky. (LEX 18) – Jeanette Devine was on her way to pick up her grandson when she felt something was wrong.

“I had a gut feeling not to go into the trailer,” Devine said.

So they went to a local dollar store when the storm started.

“The wind was really strong,” Devine said. “It was so fast I couldn’t get out of my car.”

After the storm passed, Devine received text messages and calls about what had happened to her house.

“When I arrived, there was a tree on my house,” Devine said. “What should I do? Thank God my grandchildren weren’t there.”

Devine lived in the house for 22 years and was devastated when she saw the tree – until a friend from church called on Sunday morning and gave her the answer to her prayer.

Frankie Woodall and his team from Woodall’s Tree Service came to their yard ready to help.

“Every time a storm comes, I’m out there trying to help somebody,” Woodall said. “I take my chainsaw, drive down the country roads and cut down trees without charging a fee. Just to help people.”

It was a sign of relief that Woodall came to Devine’s aid. She said she felt she had no one to turn to and was concerned about the cost of having the tree removed from her roof. Woodall waived the cost because he values meeting people and helping those who need help.

Now that the tree is no longer in Devine’s house, she can relax until the next storm comes. Knowing there are people like Woodall making her community a better place gives her hope.
