Father loses wedding ring while helping his wife give birth on the side of the road

BREWSTER, Mass. (WCVB) – A Massachusetts couple says the situation that involved their baby being born in a car and a wedding ring being lost could have gone wrong in many ways, but ended in the most beautiful way.

Summer traffic on Cape Cod can require some patience, but when Rebecca and Danya Mahota got in the car, they had no time to waste. At 40 weeks pregnant, Rebecca Mahota’s contractions started strong and fast.

“We got in the car. The GPS said 56 minutes and that was the problem,” she said.

Rebecca Mahota’s water broke as the couple drove from Brewster to the hospital in Plymouth. They had only made it 26 minutes into the journey when their baby girl decided to come into the world.

“One contraction later, he had pulled over to the side of the road. I was already holding her head,” said Rebecca Mahota. “It was actually private and special, although it wasn’t the plan at all. But it worked out wonderfully.”

With Baby Summer, as they called their little daughter, wrapped in a blanket knitted by her grandmother, the couple made their way to an ambulance that would take them to the hospital.

“My wife is an absolute legend,” said Danya Mahota. “Everything could have gone wrong, and yet everything went well.”

But when the couple arrived at the hospital, Danya Mahota noticed that his wedding ring was missing. He searched his car and house but found nothing. Days later, with the help of friends, he returned to the roadside spot where his wife had given birth.

“Just as we were leaving, I looked down and, by the grace of God, I found it right between my toes. I was just scratching away some grass and just couldn’t believe it,” said Danya Mahota.

It was a happy ending to a true matter of the heart.

Summer is now one week old and she and her mother are doing well.
