WHITINGHAM, Vt. — The vehicle of a missing North Bennington, Vt., man was found abandoned in Whitingham, Vt., on Friday. However, his owner remains missing.

Matthew Houskeeper, 59, was last seen at 9 a.m. Wednesday getting a haircut at Camille’s Hair Salon in Manchester, Vermont. He was reported missing after he failed to show up for his scheduled 10 a.m. shift at Kevin’s Sports Pub in North Bennington – which family, friends and coworkers said was completely out of character for him.

His vehicle was found at 2445 Tunnel Street in Whitingham, near Sherman Reservoir, around 11:30 a.m. Friday, police said. Officers responded to the scene and began a search. The 59-year-old housekeeper was not located before the search ended at nightfall.

Police continued their search in the area on Saturday without success and intended to continue the search on Sunday.

Houskeeper is described as a person with short, grey-blonde hair.

He was reported missing to Bennington police, according to his sister, Erica Housekeeper. Police confirmed he was not at his apartment, she said.

“We have friends who are looking at reservoirs and lakes,” said Erica Houskeeper. “I’ve also contacted Vermont State Parks.”

Although Houskeeper had been vacationing in Rhode Island in the days before his disappearance, his family confirmed that he returned home earlier this week.
