The deadline for the 17th Art Farm Opening Exhibition and Art Farm Gala is approaching

Only a few days remain to submit work for YoloArts’ 17th Annual Art Farm Opening Exhibition and Art Farm Gala.

The events raise awareness and funds for the YoloArts Art & Ag Project, Yolo Land Trust and Yolo Farm to Fork. The Art & Ag Project pairs artists with Yolo County farmers, offering the community a unique glimpse into the two worlds of artistic expression and agriculture, according to a YoloArts press release.

The signature daytime event includes an art harvest, a silent auction, and tastings of local food and wine.

The deadline for submissions is August 22. For more information on participation guidelines and how to submit artwork, visit https://yoloarts.org/artfarmcallforart/.

The newly opened exhibition at Gallery 625 in Woodland, aptly titled “Friends, Neighbors & Family,” focuses on the Yolo County community.

The exhibition presents the stories of Linda Walsh and Woody Fridae’s neighbors, who represent a small but significant part of the larger Yolo County community, portrayed in the media of painting, charcoal and photography.

“Friends, Neighbors & Family” can be viewed at Gallery 625 until September 27th.

Island Crew, an acoustic trio specializing in “Island Americana” music, will be the headline act at the Village Homes Performers’ Circle in Davis on Tuesday, August 27.

They will play original songs about boats, beaches and bars. The trio includes Davis songwriter Ernie Silva, who sings and plays 6- and 12-string guitar; multi-instrumentalist “Steel” Pemberton plays lap steel, ukulele and guitar; percussionist “Mountain Lion” Padilla plays pan drum, congas, djembe, bongos and marimba.

“Their music is influenced by the Hawaiian Renaissance, Azorean folk music and songs from the San Francisco Bay Area, where the three musicians grew up,” a press release states. “Their sound is described as rising from the sea at the intersection of Waimanalo and Kingston, where Key West meets Bakersfield.”

Island Crew began making music together four years ago, playing at wineries, community events and charity events in the Sacramento Valley and Bay Area.

The event is free and welcomes artists of all levels as well as spectators who simply come to enjoy the performances. No tickets or reservations are required.

The event begins with an open mic from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. and concludes with the main performance from 8:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will be held at the Village Homes Community Center at 2661 Portage Bay East in Davis.

“Center Stage” is a column that covers the arts in Yolo County and the surrounding area.
