PhilSys Digital Identity Card and Demographic Update Services Now Available

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has officially launched a service that allows registered persons to update their information in the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), in accordance with Section 11 of Republic Act No. 11055.

Law No. 11055 of the Republic of Philippines, known as the Philippine Identification System Act, requires the updating of personal information in the PhilSys database whenever changes or corrections are required to an individual’s national digital ID.

The PSA currently allows users to personally update demographic information, including changes related to nationality, age, marital status or family relationships. The service also allows correction of spelling or typing errors, such as misspelled names or incorrect places of birth. In addition, adjustments to first names or dates of birth are permitted if the original data contains obvious errors, the PSA notice states.

The PSA, in collaboration with the Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs (OSAPIEA) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), launched the Digital National ID for transactions with government and private institutions to promote digital transformation and streamline services.

The process of generating the digital ID card involves seven steps, including providing consent, entering personal information, and biometric facial authentication. After verification, users can download a personal copy of their digital ID card.

In addition, the PSA introduced the National ID Verification to ensure the authenticity of the digital National ID. The platform, in turn, allows users and organizations to verify and authenticate the digital National ID by scanning its QR code. Organizations are encouraged to apply to the PSA for the National ID Authentication Services to ensure a more secure verification process.

Last year, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) launched an initiative to enable mobile registration in geographically remote coastal areas using traditional outrigger canoes. Currently, registration in the national digital ID system is open to all Filipinos aged one year and above.
