Man discovers a “secret” while researching his family tree that instantly humbles him
Many people go through their family tree to better understand their ancestry, and when one TikToker did so, he got quite a surprise.
Lukas Battle shared a video on TikTok (@lukasbattle) in which he revealed that while researching his family tree, he discovered an incredible resemblance to one of his relatives. When he came across an old photo of his great-great-aunt Katherine, Battle was speechless at how similar the two looked.
He joked that “nothing humbled him more” than realizing he looked almost exactly like a colonial woman. Everything from their faces to their hair looks like he’s staring into a mirror rather than at an image from generations ago.
He posted the revelation in a hilarious TikTok video that quickly went viral. In just a few days, the clip was viewed more than 882,400 times and received more than 170,700 likes.

His resemblance to Katherine certainly came as a surprise to Battle, and he doesn’t seem to have gotten used to this revelation yet.
“This is the truth I have to live with every day. This is real,” he said on TikTok.
Battle still can’t get over the resemblance and even jokes: “She stole my face.”
He continued, “I don’t think I can fully recover from the thought of resembling a colonial seamstress.”
Having a doppelganger is often portrayed as an obscure science fiction story rather than reality, but in 2022 a study was published that delves deeper into why some people might actually have a doppelganger.
Together with a team of researchers, Dr. Manel Esteller discovered that similar-looking people share common genetic sequences and microbiome profiles. This in turn can lead to similar facial features and human likenesses.
The study also showed that shared genetic variations not only correlated with physical similarities, but also had an impact on habits and behavior. They found that weight, height, smoking, and education were correlated in similar-looking couples.
The social media reaction
After revealing his “secret” doppelganger, Battle was inundated with reactions online.
His viral TikTok video has received over 1,900 comments so far, and while some people admired the resemblance, others were amazed to see Katherine back with us in 2024.
One comment reads: “You have to copy the look.”
Another TikTok user responded: “You better be thankful Ms. Katherine passed on this picture card!”
“After all this, you can’t tell me reincarnation isn’t real,” joked another person.
Others think the similarities go beyond looks, with one TikToker writing: “I can’t explain it, but I just know she sounded like you too.”
