A dog in Tulsa, Oklahoma, must have woken up the morning he spontaneously started a house fire and decided to cause chaos and destruction.

The dog had found a juicy charger for a portable cell phone battery and was chewing on it when suddenly sparks flew and a fire broke out on the mattress, forcing his friends to flee.

The Tulsa Fire Department recently released dramatic footage of the fire, which occurred in May, showing the portable cell phone battery sparking and bursting into flames.

The fire quickly spread through the house, leaving a trail of devastation. Miraculously, the pets managed to escape unharmed, escaping through a dog door just in time.

Fire department spokesman Andy Little confirmed her remarkable survival, according to ABC News.

“However, the outcome could have been much worse if there had been no means of escape or if the family had been asleep at the time,” Little added.

Watch the critical moment:

Lithium-ion battery fires are a “critical problem” affecting fire departments in the United States and undoubtedly around the world.

The batteries commonly used to charge cell phones are known to “store a significant amount of energy in a compact space,” Little said. If that energy is released uncontrollably, “it can generate heat, produce flammable and toxic gases, and even lead to explosions,” he added.

Experts warn that extreme heat, physical damage, overcharging and the use of incompatible chargers can cause the devices to catch fire.

The public is urged to be careful when handling lithium-ion batteries, including keeping them out of the reach of children and pets. This video is a good example of the chaos that can ensue if this advice is not followed.

For disposal, the devices should be taken to a designated recycling center or hazardous waste collection point and not simply thrown in the trash, as this may damage the batteries and possibly cause fire.
