Small book sale
The Friends of the Milpitas Library are hosting a small two-day book flea market on August 24 and 25. Rather than selling small tomes, this is a scaled-down version of the Friends’ regular four-day flea market designed to help fund library acquisitions and programs. The flea market, held at the library, features a curated mix of books of all genres, as well as comics.

Chronic hearing loss
Santa Clara County Supervisor and Health and Hospitals Committee Chair Joe Simitian is convening a special hearing on chronic fatigue syndrome and its links to Long COVID on Thursday, August 29, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The hearing will be held in the Board of Supervisors meeting room in the County Government Center, 70 W. Hedding St., San Jose.
Chronic fatigue syndrome is a long-term condition that prevents people from carrying out their usual activities. It causes severe fatigue that is not relieved by rest, difficulty thinking and sleeping, dizziness, pain, and many other symptoms. There is currently no cure.
Simitian will moderate the discussion along with Supervisor Otto Lee, vice chair of the Health and Hospitals Committee.
Panelists include Bela Chheda, MD, physician at the Center for Complex Diseases; John Chia, MD, founder of EVMED Research; Melanie Hoppers, MD, physician at the Bateman Horne Center; Supriya Narasimhan, MD, chief of infectious diseases at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center; and Angela Suarez, MD, medical director of primary care at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
The hearing will also be streamed live on the SCCgov Chambers YouTube channel and a video of the hearing will be posted on supervisorsimitian.org.
