Matt Hardy talks about the recent collaboration with WWE Digital and whether the door is open for a return of the Hardy Boyz

Much has been said about Matt and Jeff Hardy’s in-ring futures. They haven’t been as successful as expected in AEW (for a variety of reasons) and with them now looking to end their respective careers, one final appearance in WWE seems likely.

In addition to one last appearance as The Hardy Boyz, induction into the WWE Hall of Fame is inevitable, and Matt and Jeff recently joined forces with WWE SummerSlam weekend to record content for WWE Digital.

It seems that this also gave them the opportunity to reunite with some old friends backstage.

“As soon as we arrived in Cleveland, we were picked up by a WWE driver and taken to the WWE TV Hotel where we recorded some media, some digital for the guys that will be broadcast on some other platforms in the future,” Matt said in his podcast. “It was very cool. It was very cool to interact with a lot of the guys.”

“We went in. The first person we saw was Jey Uso, which was cool. I saw a couple of the other guys, saw a lot of the office and interacted with them a little bit, and we filmed that part. We have really great stuff that’s going to be coming out here probably over the course of the next three, four or five months on WWE Digital.”

He added: “We talked to people in production and they said they’d like to do more of that in the future. I said, ‘We’d like to do that too.’ I think it was a big deal for Jeff to be there and talk to some of the people because he felt bad about the way he left, he felt bad about things he did in AEW when he got in trouble and just to clear the air and let them see where he’s at in life.”

This all sounds pretty promising, and while WWE’s digital content doesn’t quite compare to a full-fledged return to the company, it does suggest that there are no hard feelings between the legendary tag team and the company.

Finally, Matt shared his views on whether the door to wrestling in WWE is open again in the new Triple H era, where the sports entertainment giant has reached new heights of success and popularity.

“The WWE was our birthplace. Without the WWE, we wouldn’t have become what we ultimately became, these tag team legends, no matter how people see us, or the worst tag team of all time. You know, Matt and Jeff Hardy. Whatever you think about our legacy, that happened because the WWE gave us a chance, so it will always be considered our home.”

“We’ve said this before and I’ve said this ad nauseam on this podcast that we want to quit in WWE now because that’s our home. That seems like the right way to go. I mean, there was a time in AEW where I would have been cool with doing it there and just quitting there, but I think now to really come full circle and go back to where we were and the people that first gave us the opportunity to become stars and achieve this dream that we were going for, we want to finish our contract with WWE, finish our careers there and do a Hall of Fame thing. We’ll see.”
