Katy Perry is taking a more relaxed approach to her upcoming wedding.

The 35-year-old singer of “Never Really Over” recently spoke about her engagement to Orlando Bloom with Stellar Magazine, and revealed that when it comes to wedding planning, she describes herself as a “bridechilla rather than a bridezilla.”

“Orlando and I are aligned in our approach,” Perry said, adding, “It’s not about the party, it’s about people coming together to hold us accountable when things get really tough. Those are just the facts of being around someone who challenges you to be the best you can be,” the American Idol said the judge of the outlet.

Perry and Bloom – who had been dating on and off since 2016 – got engaged on Valentine’s Day last year.

A source close to the couple previously told PEOPLE that the couple is keeping their big day “secret,” but both want to marry in a “smaller and more intimate” wedding.

Perry previously spoke about how Bloom, 43, blew her mind before proposing. pirates of the Caribbean The actor went the old-fashioned way and asked her parents for permission before asking her the ever-important question.

“Orlando had been planning this for some time,” a Bloom source told PEOPLE at the time. “He wanted it to be special.”

Perry spoke about the proposal in an interview with Capital city Breakfast with Roman Kemp Interview in which he recalls: “I just remember meeting him at dinner at this Italian restaurant, because if I get a ticket, I just want to stuff my belly with pasta. So I get there and he’s clean-shaven. He’s not wearing tennis shoes. I’m like, ‘Oh, shit, something’s going on!’ We ordered everything and I thought, ‘Who is this person?!'”

The star added: “I got in a helicopter and he asked me to marry him. Then we landed on this building and walked down the stairs. My family and friends were there and there were the most flowers you’ve ever seen.”

Bloom and Perry were first spotted together in January 2016 at a Golden Globes after-party, where they were photographed smiling and laughing.

Then, in May 2016, Perry made their relationship Official Instagram with a photo of the couple lounging together in bathrobes on the steps of a building in Cannes.

But the couple split in February 2017. Their reps released a joint statement saying they needed time away from each other. They reconciled the following year.
