Georgia Tech Football: A closer look at 2026 DL target Tyson Bacon

Tyson Bacon is a name most people don’t know yet, but it will soon be.

Currently, Bacon is only listed as a three-star player on the Rivals website and currently has ten offers, UAB, (first offer) Jacksonville State University, Troy, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Washington, LSU, Arkansas State, Mississippi State and Michigan. Tennessee was noted to rate the defensive linemen from Hoover, Alabama, very highly for 2026.

The 6’5″ versatile defensive lineman was born in Georgia and received an offer from Georgia Tech on May 31. He told All Yellow Jackets how the offer came about.

“I went out there and gave it my all in camp and that’s how I got the offer. We did seven or eight reps in a row, no rest, and coach came to me and told me, here’s where we’ll see what I’m made of, and I just knew it was going to take off,” Bacon said. “I love it out there, there’s a lot of family there; coach Pope and coach Simpson are good,” he added.

The Tech target also shared his thoughts on whether he thinks Tech’s football program is heading in the right direction.

“I honestly believe they can make a comeback. They have Coach Simpson, who is a great coach, so they will be good,” he said.

Interesting fact: Tyson’s mother is responsible for making the young man who he is today.

“My mom pushed me when I was weak. After practice, she made me run and do 50 push-ups in a row every day, but honestly, she was just preparing me for this. When I got to eighth grade, I was 6’2″, 220 pounds, and ready.”

Now that we’ve covered the Yellow Jackets news, let’s talk about why Hoover’s defensive linemen will be some of the most upsized players by the end of this season.

One word: versatility. Last season, Bacon played both the outside position and the center back, showing an excellent mix of strength, speed and plenty of power. The junior pushed the offensive line off the line of scrimmage several times and shortly after either hit the ball carrier hard or ran at him from behind. Physical attributes aside, it’s his mentality that really sets Bacon apart. He’s a hard worker, but he still believes he has more inner potential that he can tap into.
