According to search warrant, truck driver appeared “dazed and lethargic” after accident in which 2 children and 2 adults were killed

FLOODWOOD, Minn. (KBJR/Gray) – A judge has approved a search warrant for a blood sample from the driver of a semi-truck involved in a fatal highway crash.

Investigators hope the blood sample will help them learn more about the cause of the accident after an officer reported that the driver appeared dazed and lethargic after the crash.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, two children and two adults were killed in the collision, which occurred on Highway 2 on Wednesday afternoon.

The victims were identified as 65-year-old Vincent Dow, 66-year-old Bonnie Dow, Hope Oakgrove and Charlotte White, both 9 years old.

Authorities said the Honda Pilot they were traveling in was one of several cars stopped for construction on the highway when a tractor-trailer driver allegedly failed to slow down and drove into the vehicles.

A witness told an investigating officer he saw the tractor-trailer swerving across the road markings for several miles before the crash, according to a search warrant application.

According to the documents, witnesses also said they noticed the tractor-trailer traveling at different speeds.

An officer spoke with the driver, a 63-year-old from Grand Rapids, Michigan, while he was hospitalized after the crash.

The officer reported that the driver appeared to be reacting more slowly than normal and his motor skills were slower, according to search warrant documents. Officers also said the man appeared dazed and lethargic at the hospital.

The driver also reportedly told police that he could not remember anything that happened before the accident.

A St. Louis County judge granted the search warrant request on Wednesday.

According to a search warrant application signed by a St. Louis County judge Wednesday evening, an officer spoke with a witness to the accident.
