MJF discusses AEW locker room and work environment

Despite being at the center of AEW’s recent alleged backstage incident that led to the suspension of one of the women’s division’s brightest talents, American Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman is confident in the positive backstage atmosphere and overall work environment at AEW. The champion was on a media tour of England ahead of All In at Wembley Stadium on August 25 (where he will defend his title against Will Ospreay) and spoke to WrestleTalk at their studio. In the interview, MJF was asked about the company’s reputation of having “inmates running the institution.” MJF, who claimed he is “totally transparent,” said it’s a shame when things leak out because often the rumors are untrue or “completely blown out of proportion.”

“The locker room has never been this close. It’s never been a better work environment,” he said. “It feels like everyone is united, not only because they hate me, but because they all seem to get along. It seems like a real team effort right now, and it seems like everyone believes in All Elite Wrestling and is trying to move All Elite Wrestling forward. From what I understand, we’re close to getting an answer on whether or not we’re going to get a big sum of money from Turner. If we do, then we’re dealing with the most successful wrestling company since WWE.”

MJF will defend the International Championship, which he renamed the American Championship, against Ospreay, whom he defeated in an hour-long match on AEW Dynamite to win gold. Whoever emerges as champion from All In will face PAC, who earned a shot at the title earlier this summer, at All Out on September 7.
