Iranian and Egyptian foreign ministers talk on the phone about regional developments

According to a local Egyptian website, the two top diplomats spoke by telephone, citing a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, to discuss current developments in the region.

Ahmed Abu Zeid, spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, stressed that the phone call came as part of Egypt’s numerous efforts to contain tensions in the region and that Cairo is committed to maintaining continuous communication with all influential regional and international parties to reduce the heightened tensions in the region.

According to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Bagheri and Badr Abdelatty also discussed Egypt’s efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during the phone call.

In this statement, the Egyptian diplomat stressed that Egypt will spare no effort to end the unprecedented human suffering of the Palestinian nation. Moreover, the international community has understood more than ever the need for a ceasefire and the signing of a prisoner exchange agreement.

He also stressed the need to prevent the danger of the war spreading to other parts of the region and informed his Iranian counterpart about Egypt’s contacts with countries in the region and the world to de-escalate tensions in the region.

According to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Bagheri Kani thanked Cairo for Egypt’s continued efforts and for fulfilling its responsibilities to end the war in Gaza and establish peace.

The acting Iranian Foreign Minister also stressed the need to continue contacts between the two countries in line with efforts to achieve stability in the region.
