In an interview with 60 Minutes, the director expressed her interest in pursuing other original ideas rather than making another film about the Mattel doll. Here is an excerpt from her response to the future of Barbie:

“Why can’t it be another big, original, bold idea where we have a great filmmaker with a big budget and the trust of a huge conglomerate behind us to actually make it happen? That’s what I want to do.”

Meanwhile, Gerwig is turning her attention to adapting the Chronicles of Narnia for Netflix. The filmmaker will work on the first two parts of the franchise, which begins with the first novel by C.S. Lewis‘ book series, The Wonder of Narnia.
