The 2024 Big West Women’s Volleyball Conference schedule has been released, featuring 18-game league play and culminating the season with the 2024 Outrigger Big West Women’s Volleyball Championship in the Hawaiian Islands on November 27, 29 and 30 at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, California.

The 2024 NCAA Division I women’s volleyball season begins Friday, Aug. 30, with the first of four weeks of non-conference play as that portion of competition returns to largely tournament play across the country. The Big West schedule begins Tuesday night, Sept. 24, with UC Irvine visiting Cal State Fullerton at 6 p.m. PT at Titan Gym and concludes with five games on Saturday, Nov. 23, completing nine full weeks of Big West play.

Key storylines to follow this fall include:

• All eyes are on us! The 2023 Big West Women’s Volleyball Championship was a resounding success, and enthusiastic spectators watched the action from the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California. The 2,237 spectators who watched the league play the finals of the 2023 Division I Women’s Volleyball Conference Championship were the largest attendance in the nation.
• The first rematch of the 2023 Big West Championship will take place early in the season, as Hawaii is at State of Long Beach during Week 2 of the conference schedule on Saturday, October 5. The second meeting between the two teams will take place in the penultimate week of the regular season when the Beach are on O’ahu to face the Rainbow Wahine on Friday, November 15. UH closed the inaugural championship with a three-set sweep.
• UC Santa Barbara finished the 2023 season with only one blemish on their conference schedule, a loss at University of California. The Gauchos and Anteaters will face each other twice in 2024: A Week 3 meeting in the home of the Hawaiian Islands presents the 2024 Big West Women’s Volleyball Championship on Saturday, Oct. 12, and a Week 8 game is scheduled at the Thunderdome in Santa Barbara.
• Welcome to the Big West! Three new head coaches will be guarding the sidelines of the Big West. Natalie Reagan was promoted to interim coach at State of Long Beach on 14 February UC San Diego tapped Melanie Greene as head coach on March 20 and CSU appointed Aquiles Montoya to the position on April 10th.
• The upcoming Big West women’s volleyball season will continue with the unbalanced schedule of 18 games to accommodate the Big West Championship. This fall, all 11 Week 5 matches between Tuesday and Saturday, October 22-26, will be the only meetings between these teams of the season. Among the exciting Week 5 matchups is the pairing of the inaugural championship semifinalists State of Long Beach at UC Santa BarbaraThe Beach will face the defending regular season champions, the Gauchos, on the road on Saturday, October 26. In the 2023 championship edition, LBSU earned an epic five-set victory on home court, ending UCSB’s seven-game winning streak.
• Can Hawaii done it again? Rainbow Wahine, head coached by Robyn Ah Mow for the past eight years, has won the Big West crown the past four seasons, including a title win at the 2023 Big West Women’s Volleyball Championship. Rainbow Wahine defeated host Long Beach State in the final to claim its 30th consecutive NCAA title and 41st all-time. In the rarefied atmosphere of the national stage, UH is one of four teams to have taken the field more than 40 times, along with Stanford (42), Nebraska (42) and Penn State (43).
• Take two! In 2023, the Big West had multiple teams dancing in the 2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship, the 35th time since the original 1981 tournament. League champions Hawaii secured the automatic spot in the Big West and moved into the second round of games after spectacularly eliminating No. 2 seed Oregon. Regular season champions UC Santa Barbara also secured a spot in the standings after losing 3-1 to eighth-seeded Houston. The league is looking to make it one win at a time in five of the last seven competitive seasons and secure multiple postseason appearances.

The 2024 Big West Women’s Volleyball Championship begins on Wednesday, November 27, with the No. 3 seed facing the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 seed facing the No. 5 seed. The top two seeds will face the advancing teams in the semifinals two nights later, with the final on Saturday.
