Steps after a pedestrian accident

After an accident, it’s difficult to think clearly, let alone be injured, but what you say and do at the scene of the accident can significantly affect the outcome of a later lawsuit against the person who caused the accident.

The following tips will help you avoid things that could reduce the value of your personal injury claim:

  1. Call the police immediately after the accident and make sure an officer files an accident report.
  2. Take photos of your injuries, the accident scene, property damage, weather conditions, road conditions, and the vehicle that hit you.
  3. Take photos of the at-fault driver’s license, insurance card, and license plate.
  4. Make note of the names and contact details of all eyewitnesses and anyone who may have seen something.
  5. Seek immediate medical attention from a doctor or other healthcare professional and describe any affected body parts.
  6. Keep a diary of your injuries and recovery process, detailing how you feel, the treatment you receive, and the costs you incur.
  7. Wait to speak to an insurance adjuster or accept a settlement offer until you have spoken to an experienced attorney.
  8. Stay off social media and avoid posting about an accident or the circumstances of your accident.
  9. Contact a California pedestrian accident attorney as soon as possible to discuss your case.
