Dollar Tree distribution center damaged by storm catches fire

MARIETTA, Okla. (KFOR) – A Dollar Tree distribution center damaged by an EF4 tornado in April caught fire Friday morning.

The city of Marietta was hit by a devastating EF-4 tornado in April 2024 that swept through the area, including the distribution center. There were no injuries when the tornado struck the distribution center, but the significant damage caused the center to be closed.

On Friday, August 8, the distribution center caught fire, Marietta police report. Nearby witnesses said the building was engulfed in flames.

Later Friday morning, large clouds of smoke were seen over the area near I-35.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, both lanes of southbound I-35 at the SH-32/Memorial Dr. intersection in Marietta were closed due to heavy smoke.

The motorway has now been reopened.

Marietta police are urging drivers to avoid the area.

According to the Love County Sheriff’s Office, firefighters were still battling the fire in the north portion of the building at 12:30 p.m.
