Kourtney Kardashian wears an unexpected lingerie-inspired mini dress at her wedding

Celebrity weddings always have a huge influence on bridal trends – and Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker’s extravagant Italian nuptials will no doubt serve as inspiration for many couples in the coming months, especially the bride’s Dolce & Gabbana ensemble, which was a great example of someone ignoring traditional wedding rules and instead injecting their own personal style into the day.

On Sunday, Kardashian walked down the aisle for the third time after officially marrying Barker earlier in the week in Santa Barbara. The unofficial ceremony in Las Vegas followed a boozy night at the Grammys in April.

For this wedding, the bride wore a unique Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda mini dress inspired by Italian lingerie, complete with silk, satin and lace.

Kardashian paired the unexpected design with a dramatic, wide, long hand-embroidered veil with floral lace appliqués inspired by the flowers of the nearby Portofino Gardens. The veil was also hand-embroidered with a large depiction of the Virgin Mary and the words “Family, Loyalty, Respect,” a quote taken from one of Barker’s tattoos. She paired it with tulle gloves and white lace pumps.

Although many elements of the outfit were very traditional for a bride, much of the look – as well as the outfits she wore during the three-day wedding extravaganza, including a black mini dress and black veil for the rehearsal dinner – were unique and reflected the gothic style that has become her trademark since she first started dating the Blink 182 drummer.

Getting married in lingerie or extravagant gothic lace may not be for every bride, but Kardashian proves – and many other celebrity brides have proven recently – that wedding fashion is no longer about following strict rules.

Instead, more and more brides are trusting their personal style and dressing as they are on their big day, be it in the traditional big white dress or something completely unexpected.
