Olympic Games 2024 in Paris: Open water swimming

Start lists for the women’s 10 km run

The open water swimming events of the 2024 Olympic Games begin on Thursday morning, August 8, in the Seine River, which flows through Paris. Competitors will complete six laps of a 1.67-kilometer loop between the Pont Alexandre III and the Pont de l’Alma, facing the current on the way downstream and battling it on the way back.

We start with the women’s 10 km race, where the Dutch veteran and 2016 Olympic gold medalist Sharon van Rouwendaal against the reigning Olympic champion Ana Marcela Cunha of Brazil. American Katie Grimeswho won the bronze medal in the 10 km at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, is also a contender for the Olympic title this year. Her teammate Mariah Deniganwho finished 6th at the 2024 World Championships, will make her Olympic debut this year.

France has two participants that cannot be overlooked, especially given the unbridled enthusiasm of the home crowd. Caroline Jouisse And Ocean Cassignol are first-time Olympians; they qualified for the 2024 World Championships by finishing 7th and 10th respectively in the 10 km race. Lisa Pouwho changed his sporting nationality from France to Monaco last autumn, will also swim in front of a friendly audience.
