Channing Tatum is filming a movie in the city and here’s how you can be there

Residents of Charlotte, North Carolina, could get the chance to relive an infamous moment in the Queen City’s past by appearing in a film starring Alabama native Channing Tatum based on true events from the not-too-distant past.

Roofer tells the story of Jeffrey Manchester, a real-life serial robber who broke into dozens of McDonald’s stores across the country until he was finally arrested in North Carolina in 2000. He escaped four years later in cinematic fashion by clinging to the floor of a delivery truck. Manchester hid in a Toys R Us and an empty Circuit City store in Charlotte for two months before being recaptured, according to The Charlotte Observer.

Tatum by Magic Mike Fame will play the robber, portraying him as a “good man” who makes “bad decisions” and later becomes “entangled in a web of unexpected relationships,” according to the casting call. (This is the cinema, after all.) Derek Cianfrance will direct, and filming is set to begin in October.

The Charlotte Film Commission has posted positions for film crew, while The Cast Station is looking for people for supporting roles, including real-life dental assistants and hygienists, news anchors, judges and court clerks, police and prison employees and more. Interested locals can download the Limelight app and submit a video about themselves. The roles pay $1,204 per day and may include speaking a few lines. The Charlotte Observer reports.

Who knows, maybe you’ll even be able to say a few words to a movie star.
