Telescopic lantern is also a flashlight, power bank, work light and more

The Lumina camping lantern offers many functions in a relatively small package. Among other things, it can be raised and lowered, serves as a flashlight, charges your devices and sticks to ferromagnetic surfaces.

Currently the subject of an Indiegogo campaign, the Lumina has a rectangular body that measures 285 x 75 x 75 mm (11.2 x 2.95 x 2.95 inches) when folded. It reportedly weighs 980 g (2.2 pounds).

The device has five light sources: a 3,000 lumen LED beam on the top and four 1,600 lumen LED panels, one on each side. When used as a flashlight, it is held horizontally with the beam pointing forward and the panels folded in.

When the Lumina is used to light a campsite or tent, it is rotated to a vertical position, its four legs are folded out of the ground and its LED panels are unfolded from the sides. Each panel can be independently tilted 180 degrees vertically and swiveled 270 degrees horizontally.

If the lantern sits too low, its head (the part with the panels) can be raised via an integrated telescopic pole, allowing the panels to be raised to a maximum height of 1,100 mm (43.3 inches). And if you’re worried about it tipping over, you can anchor each of its legs to the ground with a set of pegs provided.

And if you need a light source while working on your car, for example, the Lumina can be attached to any ferromagnetic surface (vertical or horizontal) using a set of neodymium magnets in its base.

Using push-button controls, it is possible to dim each LED panel to a minimum brightness of 200 lumens. The color temperature of each panel can also be set to one of three modes: warm, cool, or “warm white.” There is also an SOS mode where all panels flash.

The Lumina, pictured here unrigged, has an ABS/polycarbonate casing that is IPX5 water resistant (meaning it can withstand splashes of water from any direction).

The device’s 15,000mAh lithium battery should offer between four and 48 hours of runtime per USB-C charge (we’re told the 48-hour claim is for a panel at minimum brightness). As an added bonus, the battery can be used to charge or power other devices, such as smartphones.

The Lumina will be offered in Peanut (greenish), Desert Sand (light brown), and Midnight Blue. Assuming it reaches production, you can purchase it for a $99 pledge—the planned retail price is $170.
