Authorities identify teenager who died after attack near DTLA

LOS ANGELES – Authorities on Friday asked the public for help in their investigation into the death of a 19-year-old Koreatown man who was hospitalized with a head injury.

Joon Hee Han died July 25 at a Whittier hospital where he was being treated for an injury he apparently sustained in a fall, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner said.

“According to family members, the fall was the result of an attack that occurred in the 700 block of South Harvard Boulevard in late July,” the LAPD said in a statement.

“West Bureau Homicide Investigators are actively seeking additional evidence, witness statements and other information related to the incident that may help us determine what happened,” the LAPD statement said.

“As more information becomes available and the sequence of events leading to Joon Hee Han’s death becomes clear, we will provide additional information,” the LAPD statement said. “Until then, we must refrain from further comment on this tragic incident until the facts are clear.”

Anyone who believes they have information about the case is asked to contact the West Bureau Homicide Unit at 213-382-9470.
