STONINGTON, CT (WFSB) – Amtrak reported service delays between New London and Kingston.
According to Stonington Police, a train collided with a pickup truck in the area of 54 Island Road in Stonington.
They said the accident occurred around 8:25 a.m.
Amtrak announced online that it was a “vehicle accident” on Friday morning.
According to police, the driver of the truck waited at closed gates for a train to pass. When this happened, the gates opened and the driver drove across the tracks.
However, police said the barriers were closed again for another train. The driver saw it coming and fled to safety.
No injuries were reported.
Amtrak said an emergency service suspension would be in effect starting at 9 a.m.
“We will provide an update as more information becomes available,” Amtrak said.
Amtrak Police, Stonington Police and Stonington Fire Department responded to the scene.
They said rail passengers had tried to find alternative travel options.
