Bambu Lab has announced the “CMF by Nothing Phone 1” design competition, in which participants design a phone case to be 3D printed.

The competition will have three winners: one for the best functionality, one for the best appearance and one for the most unexpected. There will also be 12 prizes for the best participation.

The competition ends on August 14th and the winners will each receive a CMF Phone 1 and a Bambu Lab A1 Mini Combo.

Participants can upload their designs to the MakerWorld website, where anyone can download and print them as 3D models.

“Competing with CMF by Nothing is an important step toward our vision of enabling everyone to create and personalize their own products,” said Dr. Tao, co-founder and CEO of Bambu Lab.

The CMF by Nothing Phone 1 features interchangeable back covers, accessories and standard screw types, making it fully customizable.

Accessories can be added for functional reasons and the aesthetics can be changed by removing the back cover and replacing it with a custom one.

The CMF by Nothing community team has released a STEP file of the back of the Phone 1 and published its dimensions to simplify the design process.

“We are constantly striving to create together with our members, so it was natural to open the CMF Phone 1 platform to the creative community on MakerWorld as well. We are already seeing some inspiring and unexpected designs and I can’t wait to discover some of the talented 3D designers as we go along,” said Akis, co-founder of CMF by Nothing.
