37-year-old dies after truck crashes into house in Whitestown

A 37-year-old Canastota resident died after his car crashed into a home in Whitestown on Wednesday, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

According to police, traffic enforcement officers received a call about a single-vehicle crash on Clark Mills Road in Whitestown at approximately 3:33 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31.

Upon arrival, it was found that Zechariah L. Lightsey, 37, of Canastota was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Clarks Mills Road when Zechariah abused the right side by crossing into the westbound lane and driving onto the north shoulder of the road.

As Lightsey’s vehicle entered the north shoulder of the roadway, it struck a mailbox and a utility pole and came to a stop after striking a nearby residence.

Lightsey was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. None of the residents of the house were injured in the incident.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is still investigating the accident to determine other factors that may have played a role.
