The real reason Princess Beatrice reused the late Queen’s dress for a simple wedding | Royal | News

Prince Andrew’s eldest daughter married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi on July 17, 2020 in Windsor in the presence of only a few family members, with strict social distancing measures in place.

The wedding was a secret affair attended by the Queen before her sad passing; the ceremony took place at St. James’s Palace, followed by a reception in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.

At the wedding, Beatrice paid a loving tribute to her grandmother by wearing her old dress and tiara to complete the look.

While the dress received praise from royal watchers, commentator Marlene Koenig said the choice of the vintage dress was the result of a major mishap.

Beatrice was supposed to wear a different dress for the occasion, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the designs were put on hold.

The Queen came to Beatrice’s aid and granted Beatrice’s wish to wear the original Norman Hartnell evening dress, which was tailored for the bride within three weeks.

The commentator told the Express: “It’s just an idea but her real wedding dress wasn’t ready and was stuck with the designers because she couldn’t work on it anymore because of Covid. So her grandmother gave her this beautiful dress and they were able to redesign it.”

Due to the lockdown, Beatrice was also missing another wedding item: shoes. The shoes she wanted to wear were not ready yet and she decided to use an old pair.

Miss Koenig added: “She wasn’t even wearing a new pair of shoes, which is unlikely for anyone. It was probably almost finished, but the designer couldn’t do anything more, couldn’t finish it, whereas they could rework this dress inside the bubble.”

The late Queen’s dresser, Angela Kelly, completed the outfit with the Queen’s beloved fringed tiara, which she inherited from her grandmother, Queen Mary, when she died in 1953.
