Jon M. Chu’s “Wicked” movie: Everything we know

The two-parter from Universal Pictures Evil has become a highly anticipated film for the 2024 and 2025 holiday season.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, the musical film will star Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. In addition, numerous other well-known faces will take on iconic roles in the Land of Oz. Evil Part One has pushed back the release dates a few times to land where it is now in November 2024, and Part Two As of now, this will take place in November 2025.

When will Evil Part One come out?

Evil Part One almost a neck-and-neck race with Disney’s Vaiana 2 – The Great Adventure on November 27, 2024, and before that it was supposed to air on Christmas 2024, but it was brought forward a week to the Friday before Thanksgiving, November 22, 2024. Its new opponent will be Paramount’s Gladiator II with Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal among others in the leading roles. Goodbye “Barbenheimer”, hello “Glicked”!

Before Chu took the helm, the film was on a separate schedule. The film was announced in 2016 and was originally scheduled to be released in 2019, but was then pushed back to 2021.

When will Evil Part Two come out?

The release of the second film is currently scheduled for November 26, 2025.

Who is in the cast of Evil?

In addition to the pink and green duo Grande and Erivo, the film’s stars include Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey and Ethan Slater.

Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow travelers) will play Prince Fiyero, who proudly claims he is “self-centered” and “deeply superficial,” and Ethan Slater will play Boq, a man who follows Glinda’s every command.

Michelle Yeoh will play Madame Morrible, principal of Crage Hall at Shiz University and colleague from Goldblum’s “The Wizard of Oz.”

Peter Dinklage will play Dr. Dillamond.

Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James were cast in December 2022. Bode will play Elphaba’s sister Nessarose, who uses a wheelchair. Yang and James will play Glinda and Elphaba’s shiz classmates Pfannee and ShenShen.

In addition to Bode, Yang and James, Keala Settle, Aaron Teoh and Colin Michael Carmichael are also joining the cast. Settle will play Miss Coddle, Teoh will play Avaric and Carmichael will play Nikidik.

Who else is behind it Evil?

In fact, Jon M. Chu took over directing duties, Deadline reported, after Stephen Daldry left the helm of the Universal Movie Musical Adaptation in October 2020. Daldry was attached to direct the film in 2016, and Chu was tapped to direct in February 2021.

Winnie Holzman, the author who adapted the stage musical from Gregory Maguire’s best-selling novel, co-wrote the screenplay with songwriter Stephen Schwartz, who also serves as executive producer alongside Jared LeBoff and David Nicksay. Producers include Marc Platt and David Stone, with whom Platt produced the musical.

what is Evil about?

Originally based on L. Frank Baum’s book from 1900 The Wizard of Oz which was filmed by MGM in 1939, Evil is a prequel that tells the story of how Elpheba became the Wicked Witch of the West, and also Glinda’s journey to becoming the Good Witch who greets Dorothy when she later lands in Oz.

Is there a trailer for Evil Part One?

Yes, Universal has released two trailers so far, a first look in February and a more detailed clip with a look at Jonathan Bailey’s Prince Fiyero in May.
