Former Purdue assistant coach and Mercer head coach Greg Gary has landed on his feet. According to college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, Gary has accepted a job at Georgia Tech.

According to the report, Gary will join Damon Stoudamire’s Yellow Jackets team as a quality control specialist. Stoudamire just completed his first season at Georgia Tech in 2023-24, with the team finishing the year with a record of 14-18.

Gary coached at Mercer for five seasons, leading the Bears from 2019-2024. During that time, Mercer posted an 81-79 record, including two winning seasons.

Gary was a long-time member of Matt Painter’s team at Purdue and worked as an assistant for the Boilermakers from 2011 to 2019, helping the program to two Big Ten regular season titles (2017, 2019) and six NCAA Tournament appearances.

Gary was a member of the team during the 2018-19 season when Purdue finished the year with a record of 26-10, including a 16-4 record in Big Ten play. The Boilers won a Big Ten regular season title that year and reached the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament.

Gary is a native of Anderson, Indiana, and has been coaching since 1993. He began his career at his alma mater, Tulane, where he served as an assistant from 1993 to 1997. After a one-year stint at McNeese State, he returned to Tulane as an assistant from 1998 to 2000.

Gary also had stints at Miami (Fla.) (2000-04), South Florida (2004-07) and Duquesne (2007-08, 2010-11). He also served as head coach at Centenary for two seasons (2008-10).
