About the exhibition

“Sport Friendly” is an international collaborative artistic experience celebrating sports teams that embrace diversity. It is led by artist Émilien Buffard, supported by the Institut Français and awarded the title of “Cultural Olympiad” by the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Committee. Thanks to the participation of the cultural network abroad, which photographs teams on site in the Sport Friendly style, this project aims to raise awareness against discrimination, make the voices of diversity heard and promote inclusion in sport and society, especially on the sidelines of international sporting events, through a unique collaborative photo production.

An international project: “Sport Friendly: the field of diversity!” aims to serve as a starting point to mark a horizon of social commitment to the problem of discrimination and violence in sport. A collaborative photo production that began in Argentina in 2022 and continues today at an international level to promote INCLUSIVE SPORT, highlighting teams that seek to redefine the classic values of sport and affirm that every person has a place, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, gender or physical or social condition. Players who are committed to change and inclusion, in sport and in society.

The Alliance Francaise San Diego is pleased to present a selection of photographs curated by Diana Nassar, who contributed to this international project.

Diana Nassar is a visual media artist who enjoys creating art using various mediums. She took her first course in black and white photography at Grossmont College in San Diego, California. She found the darkroom printing process a unique challenge, as she had to trust her own perspective from the first press of the shutter button. Later, Diana completed a photojournalism program at the internationally recognized photography school Speos & Polka Institute in Paris, France. There, she developed her portfolio and created original photo series. Diana enjoys traveling and discovering new places, whether a few blocks down her street or abroad. She tries to immerse herself in the environment and appreciate what surrounds us.

As part of the “Sport Friendly” photography project, created by photographer Emilien Buffard with the support of the Alliance Française of San Diego, Diana participated in the series on diversity and LGBTQ inclusion in team sports. This photography project gave her the opportunity to meet the players of Cheer San Diego Extreme and visually capture the aesthetic of the sport of cheerleading. Through her lens, Diana wanted to capture portraits that reflect the players’ athleticism, resilience and pride.
